In 1967, after the local neighborhood skirmishes, Warren Smith called a lunch to bring area businessmen together. They discussed what actions could be taken to aid the children of the Cass Corridor in Detroit.

Fifty thousand people, many of whom had fallen into lifestyles of poverty, lived in the corridor at that time. However, the most upsetting situation was that of the corridor children. These children were of all ages whose parents were unable or unwilling to provide the basic needs of a child.

These businessmen had previously heard the story, "Children of the Cass Corridor"  and together they were determined and committed to making a difference. From that moment "I Care" was conceived! Its mission was to assist children from an organization that maintained zero overhead by utilizing the strengths of its members and contributing 100% of its donations back to people in need. Each person volunteered to make a positive impact utilizing his or her individual resources, expertise, time and money.
