Today, "I Care" is more than two thousand strong! "I Care of Michigan" has been in existence for more than 30 years and sustained by a membership of business people, spouses and retirees.
Though "I Care" had initially dedicated themselves to help inner-city children, they have, through the years, expanded their operations to include anyone with a one time need. Its policy is aimed to help children, adults and families for "any good reason" with cash donations on a "one to one" basis*.
"I Care of Michigan" is a partner to most of the Detroit area charitable agencies. As these great agencies provide help on a daily basis, there are some times when they could not help, "a particular need," or they have a waiting or investigating period."
The "any good reason" policy allows, "I Care of Michigan," to distribute their donations through their members as well as through recognized agencies, e.g., "Traveler's Aid," "The Detroit Housing Commission," "The St. Vincent de Paul Society," "Joy of Jesus," "Cass Corridor Youth Advocates" and the local churches of all denominations. This mode of operation allows immediate response while other agancies are unable to respond.
"I Care" does not have a waiting period and is a one-time, emergency source to aid individuals and families with their immediate needs.
* Donations are not made directly to recipients; they are made on the recipient's behalf to pay a utility bill, mortgage payment, medical bill, etc.
